Competing and training as a runner, triathlete, or endurance athlete is a huge commitment. Finding the time to log training rides or long runs can be hard enough, so much so that strength training tends to take a backseat. To prevent the loss of strength and the breakdown of running form, be sure to include weight training into your workout routine.
When you head to the gym for your workout, only using exercise machines and performing single joint exercises (like biceps curls and leg extensions) is a waste of your time. In reality, you should be performing full body, functional exercises.
Give this workout a try, then use it as a guide for creating additional strength training sessions that will benefit an endurance athlete.
