If you are an avid Body Beast enthusiast, we encourage you to take a look at P90X3 and vice versa. They both bring something to the table, and it’s going to be based on your preference.
While programs like Insanity and Core de Force are close rivals, Body Beast and P90X3 seem to have the most in common. We’ll take a look at each program and how they go about building muscle.
Hopefully, by the end of this article, you will know for sure which program is right for you. Also, it’s worth noting that they both might be.
P90X3 Explained
P90X was first released in 2005 by Tony Horton. After over 15 years, the program is still around and better than ever.
P90X3 is the latest version that utilizes a strict schedule to alternate muscle groups to challenge and build muscle constantly.
Your body will never get complacent with this extreme workout program that is based on calisthenics.
It comes with a fitness guide and nutrition plan in addition to the 30-minute workouts that span 90 days.
Work your body with resistance training, cardio, yoga, and power training. While beginners are welcome, this training is no joke and is recommended for those at an intermediate or advanced fitness level.
You will get a whole workout in just 30 minutes. 16 extreme different workouts help you ramp up the calorie scorching and carve muscle intensity, keeping your heart rate soaring. New beginner is available.
Let’s Talk Body Beast
Body Beast works using 12 workouts that feature either building, bulking, or beast mode.
It is centered around weight lifting to gain muscle mass as a weight bench is necessary for this program.
It features 30-60 minute workouts depending on which area you work in and includes a Body Beast nutrition plan.
Lose weight and build muscle with this program as you work through cardio and weight lifting.
Lucky 7 uses seven compound and intense exercises stacked into seven pyramids, to recruit more muscle fiber—in less time.
Body Beast vs. P90X3
We gave you the generic information behind each program, but let’s take a look at the essential features of each.
We’ll discuss how they compare when it comes to features, duration/types of workouts, nutrition, required equipment, and price.
Let’s get started.
Features
You will get a whole workout in just 30 minutes. 16 extreme different workouts help you ramp up the calorie scorching and carve muscle intensity, keeping your heart rate soaring. New beginner is available.
We all love some excellent features, and both of these programs bring a lot to the table.
For P90X3, you will find that it’s more customizable than Body Beast. Vary your workout in P90X3 depending on your fitness goals.
You can choose Classic, Lean, Doubles, and Mass.
Also, P90X3 can be done anywhere because all you need is a resistance band for some of the training and your body weight.
Lucky 7 uses seven compound and intense exercises stacked into seven pyramids, to recruit more muscle fiber—in less time.
With Body Beast, a weight bench is required for resistance training. That said, you are more limited in where you can do this program due to this weight lifting aspect.
There are some options for scheduling your workouts based on your goals, but it’s not as customizable as P90X3 is for muscle gain, building lean muscle mass, or shredding fat.
If you enjoy a more customizable workout, P90X3 might fit the bill.
Duration and Types of Workouts
When it comes to the longevity of your workouts, Body Beast offers trainings from 11 minutes to almost 60 minutes, depending on the format.
Body Beast comprises 12 exercises, separated into three categories–Build, Bulk, and Beast. Build offers four exercises for your chest, triceps, shoulders, legs, back, and biceps.
The most extended workout is 50 minutes. For the Bulk workouts, five workouts focus on the chest, shoulders, legs, back, and arms, with the longest session being 40 minutes.
Finally, the Beast workouts focus on the abs, cardio, and total body with three exercises that range from as short as 11 minutes to almost 40 minutes.
Now, P90X3 is a little more straightforward in that all 16 workouts offered are 30 minutes long. Whether you are building lean muscle or working on muscle growth, the workouts are the same amount of time.
The workouts are categorized as Resistance, Power, Cardio, and Core, Flex, and Balance. Resistance focuses on the upper body while incorporating cardio and strength training using body weight.
In Power, utilize those muscles with fast-twitch movements that ignite the heart rate with little resistance. Cardio includes resistance, core, and mobility to get your heart rate soaring in just 30 minutes.
Finally, Core, Flex, and Balance focus on strengthening your muscles through yoga and stretching.
Nutrition
Did you know that your nutrition choices make up 90% of your fitness level? Without a proper diet, you won’t lose weight or see the results you want.
The good news is that both of these programs come with a nutrition plan to teach proper nutrition as a lifestyle.
The P90X3 nutrition plan focuses on counting your macros to ensure you get the proper amount of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins.
In general, that means your daily diet should consist of 40% carbohydrates, 30% proteins, and 30% fat. P90X3 teaches you portion control, the best times to eat, and the crucial element of hydration.
In contrast, the Body Beast nutrition plan is more detailed, with a specific diet plan included. It can be customized depending on your fitness goals but works more for those focused on muscle growth.
There are 19 possible meal plans to choose from and focuses on eating five to six small meals throughout the day.
Equipment Needed
If you are a minimalist, P90X3 is your jam. The only thing required is a pair of free weights or a resistance band.
As an option, you can use a pull-up bar, yoga mat, and a yoga block, but those pieces of equipment are not required for the program.
For Body Beast, more equipment is needed. You need dumbbells and a weight bench or stability ball for the weight lifting portion of the program. A pull-up bar is also required.
In addition, you can get an EZ curl bar and a padded mat if you would like to, but it’s not needed.
Let’s Talk Price
Both of these programs are available through the Beach Body membership, which is priced at $99.99.
If you are unfamiliar with Beach Body, you get the two programs we discussed and an extensive library of other programs too.
That price is for an entire year’s membership. Unfortunately, this is currently the only way to purchase the Body Beast program.
For P90X3, you can buy the DVD set for $38.99. If you don’t want a lot of other programs, this is the way to go.
So Which Program is Better?
We like both of these programs for different reasons.
P90X3 is customizable to lose weight and build lean muscle with little equipment. It’s more intense than Body Beast with the workouts, but it’s done in 30 minutes every time.
Body Beast is better when it comes to bulking and building muscle mass.
While the workout times vary, this program is better for beginners as they aren’t as intense as P90X3. It depends on your fitness level, and goals as to which program might be better suited for you.
We like that both programs offer nutrition options as an excellent diet is vital in your fitness training.
In the end, you can’t go wrong, so choose wisely for your own body and lifestyle. Bring on the burn!
