what you dont know about fitnessWhy is it so difficult to get in shape and just be healthy?

After all, exercise is not an exact science.  Maybe it’s because there are lots of outside influences – marketers, equipment manufacturers, personal trainers and commercial gyms working against us. It’s their job to make us dependent on their services, facility or product. And, with their livelihood hanging in the balance, our best interests will always take a backseat to their paycheck.

Whether you recognize it or not your concept of fitness is being shaped by marketing and advertising propaganda. There is a multi-billion dollar industry built around your propensity to buy into the lies. Trouble is its working. You can’t help yourself. Surly the next DVD, class or piece of equipment will be the answer to your fat-loss prayers. Allow me save you some time and money – it won’t be.

Faking Fitness

You think you know, but you have no idea – about fitness. But it’s not your fault. I told you there is entire an army of people out there feeding us misinformation. In this alternative fitness universe we live in fitness falls into a few exclusive categories: 1) Zumba, 2) CrossFit, 3) P90X, 4) Bodybuilder. If, for some reason, you do not fall into one of those categories there is no possible way you can get in shape. You will be fat and boring forever!

That’s insane! If you want to classify yourself and cram your goals into someone else’s business model, that’s fine. But, if you want to get fit, lose weight, gain muscle – whatever – you can do it without a title. There’s no reason you should be arranging your life around a trip to the gym or a glorified group exercise class. Trust me, there is a place for you on the spectrum between remedial aerobics classes and the alternate extreme that is CrossFit. The first step to solving a problem is admitting we have one. So now it’s out there: Fitness, as we know it, is a scam.

The gym is a joke. And it’s not just your gym, it’s almost every gym. Any place with more cardio equipment and televisions than free weights or squat racks is actually a risk to your health. The club owner doesn’t care if you lose weight or gain muscle. As long as you pay your membership and don’t get injured they couldn’t care less what becomes of you. You signed the lifetime contract and agreed to play by the rules. From time to time you show up and wonder around. Maybe you get in a little cardio while watching SportsCenter – or worse Dr. Oz. Then, it’s off to a circuit on the strength machines.

Which brings me to my next point…

Promise me you won’t ever touch an exercise machine again. Unless you are rehabbing an injury you are hereby forbidden from using an exercise machine. They are utterly useless. Sitting on your ass will never count as exercise, so stop pretending. When you sit you slouch and use shitty form. Your heart rate declines and so does your ability to make any type of meaningful. These machines are just a cash cow for equipment manufacturers masquerading as an answer to your fitness prayers. They are the training wheels of fitness and it’s time you moved on to the two-wheeler – free weights. And don’t stop there, define fitness for yourself.

Redefining Fitness

There is no one program, piece of equipment or trainer who can possibly give you everything you need. As long as you rely on someone else to sell you on a product or program, you are helpless. Instead of being the victim of some sales pitch, think of it like this: the only way to become truly fit is to combine knowledge with effort. That way you can train yourself, forever.

And that’s exactly what we want to help you do. We want to give you everything you need to train how you want, when you want. That’s why the videos and workouts are free. It’s the same reason why we offer kettlebells for the lowest price possible. It’s because we know you want to get fit, but struggle to find the knowledge and time make it stick. So we’re trying to put everything you need at your fingertips. This way, you can use your bodyweight and a kettlebell to get a badass workout in when it works for you.

So, about that secret to fitness that everyone is searching for; it’s a myth. The key to a lifetime of fitness depends upon your ability to learn the basics, implement them consistently and recognize bull-shit when you see it. It’s time to stop faking it and find fitness for real. And remember that we’re here to help every step of the way.
